Dr. Annavarjula will identify the various ﬁrm level manifestations of innovative capabilities such as innovation generation, dissemination and strength of innovation. About Dr. Madan Annavarjula
Dr. Madan Annavarjula is the coordinator of International Business Program and associate professor of management at Bryant University where he is responsible for program planning, curriculum development and day-to-day administration of the program. He earned his MBA
degree from Karnatak University, India and his Ph.D. in International Business at the Fox School of Business, Temple University, Philadelphia in 1998. He teaches International Business and Business Strategy related courses at Bryant University, as well as several reputed institutions including Temple University abroad.
His current research interests include technology strategies of multinational corporations and internationalization of family owned ﬁrms. Research indicates that access to capital by entrepreneurial ﬁrms is a major factor in facilitating economic growth in an economy. At the ﬁrm level, business owners have the skills and expertise in running the ﬁrm but often have incomplete information about the potential avenues for raising capital from external sources. As Wall Street’s problems were reaching a crescendo during 2007 and 2008, Lehman Brothers, a prominent New York based investment bank, faced a continuing drain on its cash and reserves. Its debt laden balance sheet, coupled with illiquid assets with uncertain valuations, constrained its ability to borrow or raise new capital. Lehman needed to convince its lenders, investors and government regulators that its position was not as dire as the rumors on the Street suggested. What happened next involved accounting magic that circumvented GAAP
requirements and enabled the company to concurrently deleverage and manipulate the presentation of its balance sheet while under the watchful eye of its auditors and government regulators. Join Professor Kreimer as he discusses how Lehman Brothers’ “too big to fail” mentality coupled with a moral hazard mindset led the company down a path of destruction…and why no one was held accountable.
About Professor AJ
Mr. AJ Kreimer, a CPA, has extensive experience in accounting, taxation, ﬁnance, and other aspects aﬀecting real estate holdings. Mr. Kreimer served as vice president of The Donesco Company, a privately held real estate company; portfolio manager of a Real Estate Investment Trust; controller of a real estate subsidiary of Fidelity Mutual Life Insurance; and various positions with Penn Mutual Life Insurance Company. Currently, he is president and owner of Hartwell Realty Corp. As an adjunct instructor at Fox, Mr. Kreimer has taught auditing at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and the senior seminar in accounting. He is actively involved with the Boy Scouts of America and currently serves as chairman of the National Jewish Committee and as a member of the Executive Board of the Northeast Region. He earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Pittsburgh and an MBA from Temple University. About Dr. Michael Moughan
Over his 30-plus years in the ﬁeld, there isn’t much that Michael Moughan hasn’t seen when it comes to accounting, taxes and ﬁnancial planning.
An accounting graduate from Drexel University, Dr. Moughan worked for Sun Oil Company for 16 years. There, he held a number of positions, including Manager of Consolidated Tax Return, Manager of International Tax Planning, and both Controller and Treasurer of Sun Marketing and Reﬁning Company. During these years Dr. Moughan earned an MBA
and a MLA
from Temple University, and a master’s degree in Tax from Widener University. In 1983, Dr. Moughan left Sun Oil to start his own tax, estate and ﬁnancial planning practice, a business he continues to run today. He also started teaching part time and later full time at the university level and today has more than 25 years of experience in the classroom. In recent years he has been honored with the Fox School Crystal Award for Teaching and the EMBA

Any curriculum on the subject of Project Management explains that there are three major tools that are needed to manage projects. In a perfect world, there'd be one tool that'd summarize project status in just one number. Such a tool doesn't exist, but the Earned Value Analysis comes close, providing a summary status report with just two numbers. These two numbers are the two major components of project performance, one for schedule (on time delivery) status and one for cost (over or under budget) status.

About Dr. Mark Gershon
Professor Gershon is the chairman of the Management Science and Operations Management department. An industrial engineer by training, he began his career as a quality engineer with the Project Management oﬀce at the Army's Armaments Development Command. He then worked as a project manager for Control Data Corporation, responsible for software development applications and consulting projects for the minerals industry, before coming to Temple in 1983. Since then, Dr. Gershon has focused on developing and implementing new ideas for project management and quality management. Besides earning a Professional Engineer's license, he holds certiﬁcation as a Project Management Professional and a Six Sigma Master Black Belt. He consults and gives seminars on these topics around the world. Dr. Gershon has published widely, including two textbooks and over thirty refereed journal articles. In 2002, he was keynote speaker at a conference in China, and has served on the editorial boards of international journals. Ultimately, however, change is about building an organizational culture that aligns with the business model to achieve competitive advantage. While no one questions the importance of change, managing change can represent a daunting task that frequently yields disappointing results.
In this seminar we will discuss why employees resist change and identify some of the keys to implementing eﬀective change. In doing so, we emphasize how an organization must align its reward systems to foster a culture of high performance, one that can lead to sustainable competitive advantage.
